Customs & Culture
Afternoon Tea: A 'light' meal typically served mid-afternoon featuring tea, finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and cakes. It’s a refined and delightful ritual, often enjoyed in hotels or tea rooms.
Sunday Roast: A cherished British tradition where families and friends gather on Sundays for a hearty meal. It typically includes roasted meat (e.g. beef, lamb, or chicken), roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and vegetables. It’s often enjoyed at home or in a pub.
Pub Culture: Pubs (public houses) are a cornerstone of social life in the UK. They’re more than just places to drink — they’re community hubs for catching up, enjoying pub quizzes, watching sports, and sharing meals. Ordering a pint and having a "pint and a chat" is classic British.
Queuing: Brits are famous for their orderly queues. Whether waiting for a bus, at a checkout, or for a ticket, forming and respecting the queue is a must — cutting in line is a big no-no.
Tipping: Generally not required (not even pubs or bars) other than sit-down restaurants at 10-12.5% as standard if not already included in the final bill.
